ARGUS, WINGX release aircraft activity reports for January
ARGUS Analytics has released its January aircraft activity report and WINGX has released a report on the effect U.S. winter storms had on business jet activity.
ARGUS reports that global flight activity has increased by 2.4% compared to Jan. 2025 but decreased by 7.4% from Dec. 2025. WingX reported a strong start to the year, but business jet activity had only a 1% total increase over 2024 in Week 4 (Jan. 19-25)."Overall activity for January looked good to start the year," said Travis Kuhn ARGUS Senior VP of Software. "We saw some weather impacts across North America as activity for the first 22 days of the month was up 6.5% year over year but the last 9 days were down over 10%. We don't see that as a negative moving forward and still see the indicators looking strong for 2026."
While Jan. 1-22 was up 6.5% in North America compared to the same period last year, winter storms had a strong impact on flight activity. Activity from Jan. 23-31 was down by 10.9%. It still remained positive with an increase of 1.3% compared to Jan. 2025. Fractional activity had the only increase in the operational category, with a 10.3% increase. Part 91 and Part 135 activity decreased by 0.8% and 0.9%, respectively. The overall aircraft categories were mostly positive, with mid-size cabin jets having the largest increase of 2.2%. Small cabin jets increased by 2.1% and turboprop aircraft increased by 0.2%. Large jets flew 21 fewer flights than Jan. 2025 but were statistically flat. In Week 4, business jet activity in North America decreased by 3% compared to Week 4 2025, likely due to the winter storm. Dallas, Atlanta and Washington DC had the biggest decreases in business flights at 13%, 40%, and 49%, respectively.
Total European flight activity increased by 0.5% compared to Jan. 2025, but it decreased by 3.4% when compared to Dec. 2025, with all aircraft types decreasing in activity when compared to the previous month. When compared year over year, midsize cabin and large cabin jets had the only increase of 3.2% and 8.0%, respectively. European business jets totaled 8,922 flights in Week 4, up 3% year over year. Italy led with a 14% increase in departures, while business jet traffic from France declined sharply by 15%.
