Winter storms led to aviation fuel price plateaus, SAF stays active
Overall Price Movement
Over half of the United States got a preview of Punxsutawney Phil's shadow this January, sending airport plows across the country head-on into sheets of ice and snow. Did you hear the news? Six more weeks of winter!
Naturally, the inclement weather did not have ideal flight conditions in tow, likely explaining the minimal fuel price movement we saw for the national averages of 100LL and JetA through January. SAF, however, continues to teeter-totter according to GlobalAir.com's proprietary fuel data. The national U.S. average for 100LL has dropped again for a fourth consecutive month. With December averages reading $6.44, January shows a three-cent decline at $6.41.While 100LL saw another drop, JetA made minimal movement in the downward direction. Showing a one-cent decline from December, January's national average for JetA reads $6.25. Pilots (and their FBO counterparts) across the country are itching for reasonable flying weather.Once again, we see stark price deviations in the novel SAF. With the national average showing $8.72 in December, our SAF average has jumped by ten-cents at $8.82. SAF gave a fairly consistent month-to-month pattern of alternating between increases and decreases through 2025.Despite the weather, airports and FBOs are keeping operations steady and runways open, even if it means several 10' snow piles lining the ramp.Top Performing Airports
Notable events, such as the Country Music Awards (and its rescheduling due to weather), can skew which airport owners, operators and flight departments research on our platform the most. Here are the top three airports that GlobalAir.com users visited on our Airport Resource Center last month:
GlobalAir.com's top three most visited airport pages in the past 30 days were:Music City Executive Airport (KXNX) in Gallatin, TNJohn F. Kennedy International (KJFK) in New York, NYHarry Reid International (KLAS) in Las Vegas, NVTop Performing FBOs
GlobalAir.com's pre-flight-focused Airport Resource Center gives owners, operators and flight departments a faster, more reliable way to research and compare FBOs before every trip. Let's see who caught the most attention in January:
V1 Aviation @ KCKBSignature Aviation South @ KPBISimon Aviation Services @ KHUMCongratulations to our top airports and FBOs, and safe fueling everyone!GlobalAir.com's Airport Resource Center and fuel data analyses are based on the prices of over 3,200 Fixed Base Operators (FBOs), reported directly by the FBO to GlobalAir.com. We do not accept fuel price updates from third parties. We hide/exclude FBOs that do not provide a price update or verification at least every 30 days to maintain pilot trust and database accuracy.
As a result, GlobalAir.com offers accurate and up-to-date aviation fuel information.
