The company claims the Quarterhorse is the first high-Mach remotely piloted aircraft for national defense. It has a dedicated hangar and flight test operations that are designed to support the next step of the program. The Hermeus team will have to reattach the jet's tail and wings, run checks on ground operations and systems and test the engine on the ground as preparation for the Mk 2.1. The company began testing the Quarterhorse series in 2023 with the Quarterhorse Mk 0 prototype and tested the Quarterhorse Mk 1 at Edwards Air Force Base in May 2025. The Mk 1 was powered by a GE J85 engine and was designed to demonstrate high-speed takeoff and landing capabilities. The Mk 2.1 uses a Pratt andamp; Whitney F100 engine and features a variable inlet and a delta wing design while being about the size of an F-16. The Quarterhorse Mk 2.1 is currently being manufactured at Hermeus' headquarters in Atlanta.
