Business aviation support company ACASS has completed its first-ever flight to Antarctica on Oct. 28 in a Falcon 8X jet. The flight transported eight team members from White Desert, Antarctica and a San Marino CAA inspector from Cape Town, South Africa to Wolf's Fang Runway, Antarctica. It is the first of seven ACASS-operated flights to Antarctica planned during the runway's 11-week operating period. Only 10 business aviation flights are scheduled to and from Antarctica for the entire season. "Flights to and from Antarctica are exceptionally rare and complex due to the extreme environmental conditions, logistical challenges and regulatory coordination required," said Derek Holter, ACASS VP of Operations RELATED STORIES: 19-year-old pilot arrested in Antarctica while flying across 7 continents Influencer Pilot released from Antarctic after being detained for 2 months The company claims it worked with White Desert, San Marino and South African aviation authorities and other stakeholders for months to bring the project together. White Desert was co-founded by polar explorer Patrick Woodhead and is the first operator to fly guests from South Africa to their privately operated runway in the continent's interior. "Multi-jurisdiction coordination and the unique flight environment of Antarctica make this operation a significant milestone for ACASS," said Holter. "Along with our international experience and commitment to safety, we pride ourselves on operating in the most challenging regions of the world. But Antarctica was the one continent we hadn't conquered. With the expertise of our outstanding crew and fantastic support from White Desert, now we have."
