Gulfstream G700 achieves FAA certification
The Gulfstream G700 achieved FAA-type certification, readying the jet for customer deliveries. Gulfstream announced the monumental achievement Friday, celebrating the long-awaited certification after numerous delays.
With the certification, Gulfstream shared that there are two confirmed performance enhancements to give customers an increase in flexibility and airport availability. The FAA certification confirms the balanced field length takeoff distance of 5,995 feet and a landing distance of 3,150 feet, both shorter than originally anticipated.
"We have successfully completed the most rigorous certification program in company history with the G700," Gulfstream President Mark Burns said. "I'd like to thank our world-class team of flight test, certification and engineering professionals, along with the many others at Gulfstream who have contributed to this accomplishment. The G700 brings a new level of performance and cabin comfort to business aviation and is doing so while meeting the highest certification standards our industry has ever seen."
In September 2023 Gulfstream celebrated performance enhancements for the G700 including range, speed and cabin altitude. The aircraft's range increased to 7,750 nautical miles at Mach 0.85 or 6,650 nm at Mach 0.90. This brought an improvement of 250 nm at both speeds over the original projections. The jet's maximum operating speed also increased from Mach 0.925 to Mach 0.935, achieving the rank of the fastest in the Gulfstream fleet.
Gulfstream also shared that the G700 cabin altitude, the lowest in business aviation, was reduced further to 2,840 ft while flying at 41,000 ft, improving comfort for passengers. The cabin offers quieter noise levels and 20 Gulfstream Panoramic Oval windows with 100 percent fresh and never recirculated air.
"I would also like to extend my thanks to the FAA G700 certification team for their support," Burns said. "On behalf of Gulfstream's more than 20,000 employees worldwide, I am proud and excited to begin our G700 customer deliveries."RELATED STORIES:Gulfstream G700 surpasses 50 city-pair speed records en route to Singapore AirshowFAA issues special conditions for G700, G800 over 'novel or unusual' electronic flight system
On Feb. 19 Gulfstream announced that the G700 had surpassed 50 city-pair speed records while it made its way to the Singapore Airshow. The jet achieved its 50th speed record while on a carbon-neutral flight from Los Angeles to Nice, France. The G700 debuted at the show alongside the award-winning G600. This record-setting journey came just days after the FAA issued Final Special Conditions for the G700 and G800 for the "novel or unusual" electronic flight system.
Initially, certification was anticipated for 2022. Following numerous delays, Gulfstream has certified its newest jet, and customer deliveries will follow soon.
