Bombardier gives update on Global 8000 as Global 7500 reaches milestone
Among the news provided by jet aircraft maker Bombardier during NBAA-BACE this week in Las Vegas was an update on the Global 8000 testing program and a milestone for the Global 7500.
"It was like yesterday that we started the deliveries," CEO Eric Martel said on Monday about the recent delivery of the 150th Global 7500. "The airplane is performing amazingly well."
The Global 7500 has now surpassed 100,000 hours of flying, Martel said. The 150th aircraft was delivered last month to an undisclosed customer.
The plane entered into service in late 2018 and has a fleet dispatch reliability of 99.8%, according to its manufacturer.
Since then, the Global 7500 has set 20 speed records across an array of flight route city-pairs, including an 8,225 nautical mile flight in October 2019 from Sydney, Australia to Detroit, the longest flight recorded in business aviation.
Martel also provided an update on the Global 8000 testing program, having now logged 1,000 hours of test-flight rigging and completing 150 hours of test flights. Bombardier targets its entry into service for the second half of 2025.PREVIOUS STORY: Bombardier Global 8000 unveiled as fastest business jet in the sky
The company also announced that it is rolling out a program to offer Gogo 5G on its Global line of business jets, including the Global Express, Global Express XRS, Global 5000, Global 5500, Global 6000 and Global 6500 aircraft.
The upgrade can be completed through Bombardier service centers and through Duncan Aviation in the U.S. Gogo 5G requires installation of Gogo AVANCE L5 and X3 line replaceable unit (LRU) and service is expected to be available by the middle of next year??
Martel said the company plans to announce in early 2024 plans to roll out Gogo 5G availability for its Challenger line of aircraft.
