Boom Supersonic chooses flight deck, avionics supplier for Overture

Boom Supersonic announced Thursday it has signed a supplier agreement with Honeywell Aerospace to join its growing network of global suppliers for the Overture. With the agreement, Boom will incorporate Honeywell's next-generation flight deck and its modular avionics platform. Honeywell has matured different generations of its flight deck technology. Honeywell has unmatched experience in the development and certification of big, complex avionics systems. These systems provide a basis for Overture's complex, high-tech integrated avionics. "Honeywell has an extensive history of aerospace innovation and shares our vision of a faster future through sustainable supersonic flight," Boom Supersonic Founder and CEO Black Scholl said. "We're proud to work with Honeywell to realize one of the most advanced flight decks in the sky, with state-of-the-art technologies that reduce pilot workload and increase safety." The Honeywell Anthem flight deck is tailored for the Overture's unique mission requirements. The flight deck will allow for improved situational awareness and enhanced safety. The advanced avionics interface will provide Boom pilots with continuity from initial flight training in a simulator to physical test flights. Anthem aids pilots with its advanced and intuitive features and capabilities which improve aircraft operability. Honeywell's flight deck enabled display and control customization to allow pilots to alter their flight path, review changes and initiate a new flight path easily. Anthem will prioritize improving situational awareness by streamlining the pilot's primary tasks like aviating, navigating and communicating. The platform utilizes proven technologies including conformal Synthetic Vision, which further integrate the pilot with the advanced avionics. The flight deck's high-resolution displays will combine flight symbology with perspective terrain to make flying easier and improve safety. The next-gen touchscreen interfaces will allow for ready access to features like radio interface and graphical flight planning on the map.?Boom Supersonic's Symphony engine, which will power the Overture Honeywell completed the first flight with its Anthem integrated flight deck using a Pilatus PC-12 test aircraft in May 2023, preparing for FAA certification. "For decades, Honeywell has supported aircraft programs that build the future for aviation," Honeywell Aerospace President of Electronic Solutions Vipul Gupta said. "We are looking forward to partnering with Boom to usher in a new generation of supersonic travel." On Nov. 9 Boom announced the latest milestone for the Overture airliner, Symphony engine and XB-1 supersonic demonstrator programs. The company also announced the closing of an investment round, bringing Boom's total funding to over $700 million. The XB-1 jet remains on track for a historic first flight this year, beginning high-speed taxi testing for the final phase to prep for the historic flight. The symphony propulsion system completed engineering milestones and on Sept. 20, Boom celebrated the completion of the building frame for the Overture Superfactor in North Carolina. At the Paris Air Show this year Boom signed structural supplier agreements with Aernnova for the wings, Leonardo for the fuselage and wing box and Aciturri for the empennage. Boom also recently selected Latecoere to develop the complete electrical wiring interconnect system architecture for the Overture and Symphony. The Symphony engine continues to advance in its design and Boom recently conducted the Conceptual Design Review engineering milestone, preparing the company for the first hardware rig tests in 2024. Honeywell will join the growing network of suppliers for the world's fastest airliner, Overture.
