Piper Arrow pilot reports seeing 30-foot triangular object at 6,500 feet

ATC audio reveals the Dec. 20 conversation with the pilot of a Piper Arrow PA-28R-201 after he reported seeing a 30-foot-tall triangular figure flying in the opposite direction at about 6,500-6,800 feet. YouTube channel You Can See ATC released the audio with flight data, revealing the bizarre sighting the private pilot had while traveling from the Pittsburgh Allegheny County Airport (AGC) to the Frederick Municipal Airport (FDK). The plane was about 50 miles northwest of Frederick when it called into the Potomac approach to report the suspicious sighting."We observed something approximately 30 feet tall," the pilot said. "Not sure what it is."
The controller, sounding confused, clarified the size with the pilot.
"You said it was 30 feet tall?" the controller asked.
"It was pretty tall, probably about 30 feet tall," the pilot responded. "It was going the opposite direction of us."
The controller and pilot discussed the size before the Piper began its descent.
"What does the object look like?" the controller asked.
"It's kind of hard to describe," the pilot said. "It was just tall and pointy."
"Like a triangle?" the controller asked the pilot.
"It was in the shape of a triangle," he responded. "It was…at the bottom and flat on top. I'm not sure what it is. I do have a picture of it."
The controller asked the pilot to call his supervisor. The pilot opted to land the plane before making the phone call after the controller told him his supervisor wanted to talk to him to determine whether it was safe in the sky for other aircraft flying through the airspace. The communication ends shortly after, noting that the pilot flew the Piper to his destination without any other event. The F-117 Nighhawk in low light
Many people in the comments reported decades of flying without encountering a bizarre shape in the sky. One commenter said they lived in the area and reported hearing fighter jet sightings in the airspace around the time of the call. Others praised the pilot's decision to land the plane before making the call to the controller's supervisor. Another commenter pointed out that the pilot was located west of Camp David. Multiple people in the comments suggested it was a stealth fighter jet like the F-117 Nighthawk, which has a similar shape to what the pilot described.
The plane was flown by a private pilot and according to the FAA registry, it was manufactured in 1978 and registered to Druid Aire LLC. There has been no more information about the sighting online but many were quick to point out that the object was a possible UFO. Until a picture is revealed or more information is released, the mysterious triangular object in the sky will remain a mystery.
