Ground Based Nav Aid Survey
Dear Pilot,
The FAASTeam (FAA) is trying to determine how many aircraft are equipped with Automatic Direct Finders (ADFs) and how many pilots utilize ADFs for navigation. This information will be utilized when considering proposals to decommission Non-Directional Beacons (NDBs). Additionally, we are seeking similar information regarding Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range Station (VOR) usage. We would appreciate it if you would complete this short survey and return at your convenience. This information will benefit the aviation community across Alaska.
- Is your aircraft currently equipped with an ADF?
- Have you been trained in the use of ADFs and NDBs?
- Are you in favor of retaining these ground-based navigational aids?
- If so, why?
- Are there particular NDBs you believe should be retained?
- When is the last time you utilized an NDB for navigation? An estimated timeframe is fine.
- Is your aircraft equipped with a VOR/DME?
- Are you in favor of retaining specific VORs? If so, which ones?
- Do you rely on RNAV (GPS) to navigate?
Thank you for your time,
Kyle Weinzirl Anchorage FAASTeam
