The Chief Pilot is authorized to exercise operational control of the company.
1. The Chief Pilot Directs all training activities of flight crew members.
a) directs training activities of ground crew members and guides
b) Schedules check rides with check airmen or FAA DPE
c) Keeps training materials current and applicable
d) presents training materials in a professional manner
e) ensures crews have absorbed training materials through thorough testing.
2. Coordinates operations policies and training procedures
a) maintains an awareness of industry trends and regulations
b) formulates yearly training syllabus for approval by Director of Operations
c) Audits training policies/procedures and recommends changes
3. Supervises and Audits pilot activities for compliance with company policies.
4. Prepares and maintains proficiency records, flight schedules, etc.
a) Maintains pilot record files in a neat and professional manner
b) Keeps pilot flight and duty logs up to date and audits for accuracy
c) Maintains pilot list for dispatch and white board per operational control policies.
d) Attends to all PRIA paperwork
5. Disseminates information to all crew members.
a) organizes daily safety/operations meetings.
b) Participates in companywide safety committee meetings.
c) Passes on safety information derived from company safety reports.
6. Designates and qualifies instructor pilots for training.
a) ensures that instructor pilots are training pilots according to company policy.
b) Audits instructor pilots training activities.
7. Chief Pilot will remain an active PIC.
a) Chief Pilot will remain in Juneau during the tour season and supervise pilot activities, unless assigned to field work by the Director of Operations.
b) Chief Pilot can fly a full schedule if desired but at minimum a break pilot schedule.
c) Chief Pilot will maintain the skills to cover heliski contracts or government contracts if needed on a temporary basis.
d) other duties as assigned.
