Works within a team and is responsible for efficient data collection, mapping, and treatment of mosquito breeding sites within Lee County Florida. This position will use a variety of aerial platforms, image gathering hardware, and related software to produce high-resolution maps and data sets. The GIS Technician will work closely with the Lead UAS pilot and be capable of serving as Remote Pilot in Command and/or Visual Observer during data acquisition flights and other mosquito control operations as needed.
Essential Functions- Operate as the Visual Observer and/or Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC), responsible for flight planning, flight execution and risk management
- Conduct pre-flight planning, safety briefings, checklists, FAA airspace and airport tower coordination, and ensures overall mission-readiness
- Perform drone pre-flight inspections, evaluate the environment for tall structures, power poles, towers, other obstructions, various payload operations, camera settings, lighting conditions, and RGB (red, green, blue) check for thermal and LiDAR sensors
- Perform topographic surveys using a combination of mobile LiDAR, stationary scanning, drone photogrammetry and total station equipment
- Perform volumetric cut and fill calculations based on data from laser scanners, aerial LiDAR, photogrammetry, ground surveys and design documents
- Process and evaluate data accuracy and sufficiency, and ensure deliverables meet expectations and professional standards
- Prepare and complete reports related to collected field data, post flight missions, and pilot and maintenance logbooks
- Work closely with the Lead UAS Pilot to schedule and execute aerial missions, Post-flight UAS equipment tear-down, maintenance and storage
- Work closely with UAS contracted staff both in person and remotely
- Represent the Districts at conferences and public meetings as needed
- Responsible for submitting all time off requests as soon as he/she knows they will be absent, late, or leaving early.
- Responsible for completing his/her time card on a daily basis
- Responsible for wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Communicate with the public in a professional and courteous manner and refer all inquiries outside of area of expertise back to the appropriate person at the District
- Follow all Districts Safety policies and procedures and comply with all local, state and federal regulations at all times
- Attend all assigned training
