Henry County celebrated the long-awaited opening of its $2.3 million FBO terminal building at the Atlanta Speedway Airport (KHMP) last week with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The new terminal is an upgrade from the original building and offers 4,500 square feet of new features, including a covered drop-off entrance, large lobby area and service counter, pilots' lounge with 24/7 access, staff offices, and restrooms.
The airport features a 5,509-foot-long runway and offers both 100LL and JetA fuel. Improvements are still being made to the ramp area and are expected to be finished in June.
"We went from cleaning up broken down airplanes to renewing leases," said District II Commissioner Dee Clemmons at the event. "You all just don't know how important this economic engine is in our county. This is the beginning."
