JOB DUTIES:


This is a highly responsible technical position requiring a skilled Aircraft Mechanic who holds a current Airframe and Power Plant License and an Inspection Authorization.  Certification by the Federal Aviation Administration authorizes maintenance and repair on modern sophisticated aircraft and turbine powered helicopters.  Work is scheduled and performed under the technical supervision of the Aircraft Mechanic Supervisor.  Administrative support and supervision, including time and attendance and disciplinary matters, is provided by the Forestry District Manager.

 

Major duties and responsibilities include:

 

·         Performs maintenance, preventive maintenance, rebuilding and alterations on assigned reciprocating engine aircraft and turbine helicopters as prescribed by applicable Federal Aviation Administration Regulations; performs scheduled and annual inspections on assigned aircraft; and researches files for applicable airworthiness directives and complies with them.  Completes necessary inspection forms and entries into log books; and requests parts to be ordered in a timely manner.  Maintains work space in a safe, neat and orderly manner.

·         Coordinates with the Aircraft Mechanic Supervisor and pilots in analyzing reported malfunctions of aircraft, and assists or performs the necessary repairs or adjustments to these discrepancies.

·         Deploys to field locations as necessary to provide mechanical, fuel, helibase support to deployed aircraft, perform routine and emergency maintenance and repairs to maintenance facilities and ground support equipment.

 

Performs other duties as required.

·         Performs Heavy Maintenance Vendor Audits for 135 Approved Vendor Requirements.

·         Assists in obtaining scheduled heavy maintenance, repair, modification, and/or alteration vendor price quotes.

·         Verifies any discrepancy noted during the performance of Heavy Maintenance by approved vendor.

·         Reviews and approves final billing for each aircraft following completion of heavy maintenance for accuracy.

·         Ensures heavy maintenance is performed in accordance with applicable Federal Aviation Regulations as well as company policies and procedures as appropriate.

·         Communicates Approved Aircraft Inspection Program changes following any program revisions as applicable and appropriate to the scope and intent of work to be performed.

·         Provides technical expertise to heavy maintenance vendor when requested.

GENERAL FUNCTION

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:

Perform routine airworthiness inspections of aircraft: pre-flight; service; clean and maintain helicopters in flight ready condition; and post-flight. Change time-life components on airframes and engines; disassemble, repair, and reassemble engine and airframe components; repair and replace defective parts. Maintain the computerized maintenance tracking programs; check the Avantext Airworthiness Directive for Airworthiness Directives, Service Bulletins, and Notice of Parts reporting malfunction.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS

Perform unscheduled maintenance due to damage, malfunction, and factory changes; order proper parts and tools as necessary. Perform daily, monthly, annually, bi-annually inspections. Maintains hangar maintenance shop and clean-up of work station. Track maintenance budget; maintain tools and support items.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education: Graduation from high school or its equivalent; and

 

Experience: Ten years of full-time recent paid experience in the maintenance and repair of Bell 206 and MD500 series helicopters.

 

Character: Must be of good character and reputation and must not have been convicted of a felony crime. Must be able to pass a strict background investigation.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Skills in helicopter maintenance of Bell 206 and MD 500 series helicopters. Knowledge and experience of Rolls Royce Engines for the Bell 206 and MD500 helicopters. Computer skills and knowledge. Ability to weld, sheet metal, aircraft painting, aircraft electrical, basic avionics repair, and engine knowledge. Ability to write reports; frequently stoop, bend, crawl, and work on their knees; climb and work on ladders; lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work at all levels, including pilots, flight crews, factory representatives, FAA officials and a culturally diverse general public, with a focus on quality service to internal and external customers.

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Must possess a current FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license and a FAA Inspection Authorization (I.A.) license. You should be familiar with both Eurocopter and Turbomeca platforms to apply for this position. An Inspection Authorization is a plus, but not required.

This is a combined FSV/Mechanic’s position, so you’ll be tasked with fueling and driving duties, along with daily and 100 hour inspections while on contract, and any required trouble shooting that comes up.
