               The Aircraft Technician/Mechanic reports to the Senior Mechanic. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

·        Maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots aircraft airframe and engine to ensure aircraft conformance with FAA regulations.

·        Troubleshoots and determines malfunctioning parts.

·        Responsible for identification of aircraft discrepancies and the determination if the discrepancy is or is not within acceptable limits as determined by the manufacturer or other data that is acceptable to the FAA.

·        Once a discrepancy has been identified, arrange for parts and notify the Senior Technician or Lead Technician of expected part arrival time and aircraft back in service time.

·        Responsible for ensuring that any discrepancy that must be deferred as per the CALSTAR MEL is done so and is monitored as per the guidelines set forth in CALSTAR’s Operations Manual and Minimum Equipment List.

·        Performs other duties and functions as directed by the Director of Maintenance or Service Manager.

Qualifications and Experience:

This position requires a high school degree, an A&P mechanics certificate, and 2-5 years experience in the field or in a related area.  He/she must be familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field.  Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.  He/she will perform a variety of tasks while under general supervision.  A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Reports to the Senior Technician and is responsible to the Lead Technician. 

Selected candidate must be able to pass a drug screening process.

Work Environment:

May be required to travel to and between remote location(s) in austere environments. May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure. May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.

The Quality Assurance Inspector is responsible to the Chief Inspector and the Director of Quality Assurance. Position Summary   

Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for the planning, supervision, and direction of the Quality Assurance Department. Perform AASE sensor alignments(boresights) to include the SIRFC system, FLIR system, and the MMR Pod. Also will perform MMR Pod alignments to all other aircraft needing such.

Responsible to perform the inspections necessary to assure all maintenance performed is in accordance with the applicable manufacturer’s instructions, applicable regulations and customer requirements.  Performs final inspection functions on aircraft articles.  May also perform preliminary, hidden damage or receiving inspections as authorized.  Performs inspections utilizing unaided sight or visual aids, special tooling or precision measuring equipment to ensure work performed meets quality and airworthiness standards, and has been accomplished in accordance with the appropriate data, defined processes, and applicable regulations.  Reviews maintenance work record documentation ensuring accuracy to work scope, defined processes and applicable regulations.  Reviews and updates specific aircraft records as required according to work performed.  Acts as a team member representing  MRO quality control on integrated product teams (IPT).   Works collaboratively with all quality and shop operations department personnel regarding matters of inspection, process, issue identification and resolution.   Utilizes Lean continuous improvement tools and constantly strives to identify and eliminate waste (in all its forms) in an effort to improve quality/safety, decrease lead time and reduce cost.  Uses the proper problem solving techniques to address issues.   Suggests changes and improvements or updates to procedures related to inspection processes and the quality management system. 

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, further education or advanced instruction relative to technical field is desirable.  Minimum technical experience requirement is 5 years of aircraft maintenance; additional experience in component overhaul is preferred. Systems experience and understanding of the Columbia 107, Columbia 234 and like military aircraft is preferable. Aerospace manufacturing experience is desirable.  Must be familiar with the products and processes associated with aircraft and aircraft component maintenance and manufacturing inspection processes.  Must meet the requirements of FAR 145.155 and be appropriately certificated per FAR Part 65. Must have or the ability to obtain maintenance release as applicable and all MRO inspection authorizations.  Must be able to meet ITAR compliance.

The successful candidate will be solution oriented, exhibit excellent communication skills and have the ability to work with and contribute to a team.  They will have a thorough understanding of repair station procedures, quality management systems and procedures (MRO and manufacturing) and associated federal aviation regulations.  Must be able to read, interpret and apply various technical data such as prints, specifications, aircraft manuals and regulations, use specialized inspection and hand tooling as required to perform job functions.  Ability to use a computer operating system and standard business software to include MS office suite.  Must be willing to conduct oneself in accordance with the company’s core values.

Columbia Helicopters, Inc. located 22 miles south of Portland, OR is in search of an Operator Quality Inspector.

Responsible for providing support of Quality Department interface with CHI operating certificates, both domestic and foreign.    Provides proactive support of programs used for the maintenance/inspection and continuing analysis of CHI aircraft, including both domestic and foreign operations; functional support of field operations, including visits to the field (for training purposes and verification of effectiveness of maintenance/inspection programs).

Supports field maintenance personnel that are assigned to perform training for the operator.  Participates as a team member for field approval development and technical publications review with respect to operator concerns as delegated by the Operator Quality Manager.  Maintains knowledge and expertise of National Aviation Regulations, guidance material, and other relevant information pertinent to CHI’s operating certificates (domestic and foreign).

Coordinates as directed with other departments regarding activities associated with field maintenance concerns, inspects aircraft structures and/or aircraft airframe systems and parts (such as mechanical flight control, hydraulic, and fuel systems) following a defined inspection program and utilizing visual inspection techniques or inspection aids (such as precision measuring equipment).

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, further education or advanced instruction relative to technical field is desirable.  Must have A&P certification, 14 CFR Part 65.91 Inspection Authorization is desirable.

Minimum of 5 years documented technical aerospace experience and 2 consecutive years of experience in a heavy-lift helicopter field-maintenance environment (preferably in management) and a valid state driver’s license are required.

The successful candidate will be solution oriented, exhibit excellent communication skills and have the ability to work with and contribute to a team.  They will project a positive customer focus to the CHI organization as well as outside customers.  Must be able to read, interpret and apply various technical data such as prints, specifications, aircraft manuals and regulations, use specialized inspection and hand tooling as required to perform job functions assigned as well as have extensive knowledge of the Federal aviation regulations Title 14 Air & Space and CHI aircraft maintenance/inspection programs.  Must be willing to travel and work in foreign countries as required to perform job functions.

ANNUAL SALARY 

$77,109 - $77,109 (flat-rated)

A 5.5% bonus is paid for possessing an FAA Inspection Authorization. Some positions require night work, for which a higher salary is paid.

DUTIES        

A Helicopter Mechanic inspects, repairs, overhauls, services, cleans and returns all City-owned helicopters to service, including those of the Fire and Police Departments.

NOTE: Helicopter Mechanics must be available to work weekends and holidays.

REQUIREMENTS  

1.  Three years of full-time paid experience, two years of which must have been within the past three years, as a licensed Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic engaged in performing work on turbine powered helicopters such as the Bell 407, Bell 206 series, Bell 412, American Eurocopter AS 350 B2, or similar models. Qualifying experience must include the following:

-all manufacturers' scheduled inspections; and

-electrical and mechanical, repair, and troubleshooting activities; and

            -sheet metal repairs on air frames; and

            -major component overhaul.

2.  In addition to the regular City application, all candidates are required to complete the Helicopter Mechanic Supplemental Information Form (click here to download).

Candidates who lack six months or less of the required experience may file for this examination. However, they cannot be appointed until the full experience requirement is met.

LICENSE: A valid mechanical license with Airframe and Power Plant ratings issued by the Federal Aviation Administration is required at the time of filing your City employment application, and a copy must be submitted with the application.

NOTE: A Helicopter Mechanic is required to furnish hand tools.
